Welcome to our practice! Of course, a tour in person is the best way to see our facility, but for those who are not able to make it in, this will give you an idea. If you would like a personal tour, please contact us and we’d be happy to set up a time for you.

Queensway West Animal Hospital
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-front.jpgWe're located just off the Queensway (Hwy 417) at March Road. This is what you'll see when you arrive.

Reception Area
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-reception2.jpgThe "front line" of our practice is the reception area. Here we admit and discharge our patients, answer questions about general pet care as well as providing a wide range of healthy pet diets. Our receptionists and technicians are full of knowledge about diets, grooming requirements, flea and other parasite control as well as basic pet ailments. They will suggest an appointment with a veterinarian if your pets problem seems to be serious.

Exam Room #1
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-steve-at-exam1-b.jpgWe have two examination rooms. They are spacious enough for our largest dog patients....plus one or two family members. The surfaces in the exam rooms are easily sanitized for the control of infectious diseases. We use the tables to examine cats, 'pocket pets' and small dogs. The big guys are examined on the floor. Appointments vary in length but generally take 20-30 minutes. We feel it is important to give you and your pet the time you require and encourage asking questions.

Exam Room #2
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/IMG_9784.jpgIt's surprising what can be done in an examination room. Here we can collect blood samples, sample masses in the skin, check for parasites, trim nails, administer medications and vaccinations and much more. Always remember, this is YOUR time and you should leave with your questions answered.

Treatment Area
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-treatment-area.jpgThe treatment area is the central part of the hospital. There is always a staff member in this area who is watching over any patients in the hospital. The central 'island' is used for prepping animals for surgery on one side and for dental cleanings and 'non-sterile' surgery on the other side. Pets who are hospitalized are kept in large cages in this room. Larger dogs are kept in runs in another part of the clinic.

Laboratory/Pharmacy
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-lab-microscope1.jpgWe perform many blood, urine and cytology analyses in clinic in our lab. Other testing will be sent to a laboratory in Toronto where we will get results generally within 24 hours. Our pharmacy is stocked with most of the common medications that may be required for pets who aren't well. If we do not have a medication in stock, we will write a perscription to be filled at any local pharmacy.

Surgery
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-surgery.jpgWe are able to perform routine surgery such as neutering, laceration repairs, mass removals as well as more complex soft tissue surgery such as foreign object removal, biopsy of internal organs, intestinal resection and hernia repair. Complicated orthopedic surgery is referred to local orthopedic surgeons.

Surgery
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-surgery1.jpgThe surgical suite is separated from the rest of the clinic by glass doors. This room is kept immaculately clean and no animals are permitted to enter unless they are undergoing a surgical procedure. There is positive pressure within this room so air from the rest of the clinic does not enter. Obviously, sterility is of great concern to us.

Radiology
http://qwah.ca/files/2011/05/qwah-mabel-xray-2.jpgRadiographs (X-Rays) are a great, non-invasive way to examine the internal structure of the body. Sometimes a pet will require sedation or general anesthetic to have radiographs taken but many pets accept the procedure without. Radiographs are developed on the premises with an automatic processor making the whole process quite smooth and rapid......usually :-)
