Surgery refers to the practice of treating diseases, injuries or conditions through manual intervention usually via incisions. The procedures that are included under this heading are considered invasive and require strict control of anxiety and discomfort prior to, during and after the procedure. In addition, specialized equipment is required, including high quality surgical instruments, drapes, equipment for monitoring anesthesia and sterilization equipment (autoclave). A high level of training is required for the veterinarians and technicians involved with a surgical procedure.
