Meet Blanaid Donnelly, DVM
Originally from Northern Ireland, Blanaid immigrated to Canada with her family in 2002. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2009 and, driven by her interest in the interaction between human, animal, and environmental health, went on to complete her Master’s in Public Health at the University of Guelph in 2011 and her PhD at McGill University in 2016. Her areas of expertise include zoonotic diseases (diseases that are passed between animals and humans) and One Health approaches (the intersection between human, animal and environmental health).
Blanaid returned to practice at the Ottawa Veterinary Hospital in 2016 where she practiced emergency medicine. She joined the QWAH team in 2022 where she takes great joy in supporting the human animal bond. She understands that for many of us, our pets are family members who provide unconditional love. She also realizes that each family will have their own goals and values surrounding pet care, and aims to create a team approach for meeting those goals. She believes in transparency and open communication and her practice style is deeply rooted in evidence-based medicine.
Outside of work, Blanaid loves reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with her husband, daughter and their cats, Nugget and Daisy.
