Evaluating Your Companion's Health
At Queensway West Animal Hospital, our in-house diagnostic lab can provide us with a detailed look at the internal health of your furry friend. These tests allow us to assess your dog or cat's organ function, confirm or rule out diseases, and monitor treatment responses.
Bloodwork, fecal exams, and urinalyses provide our team with more information about your pet's internal system and help us catch signs of illness that may be invisible to the naked eye.
With on-site technology like digital radiology (X-rays), our team often has access to same-day lab results and can recommend treatment for your pet right away. The sooner your pet starts recovering, the sooner they can return to their fun day-to-day activities.
Our Diagnostic Services
Diagnostic tests commonly performed at our Kanata veterinary clinic include:
- Radiography (Digital X-rays)
Radiography is safe, painless and non-invasive. This digital X-ray technology uses such low doses of radiation that it can be used on pregnant females and very young pets.
We use radiographs to evaluate bones and organs or to diagnose conditions including broken bones, chronic arthritis, bladder stones, spinal cord diseases and some tumours.
- Digital Dental X-Rays
If your cat or dog has developed periodontal disease, much of this damage occurs below the gum line where it can't be easily seen. Digital X-rays allow our team to examine the roots, bones and internal anatomy of your cat or dog's teeth.
With digital X-rays, the risk of radiation exposure for your pet is significantly lower than with traditional X-ray technology.
- Bloodwork
At our veterinary lab in Kanata, we can run common, targeted blood tests to help us diagnose conditions and determine the overall health of your pet.
Some of the blood tests we do are complete blood count (CBC) to look at red and white blood cell count, platelets, and blood serum profile to check the kidney and liver function as well as electrolytes.
- Urinalysis
A urinalysis is a key diagnostic test that provides your veterinarian with essential insights into the physical and chemical properties of your pet's urine.
A urinalysis is primarily used to assess the health of your furry friend's kidneys and urinary tract system. However, a urinalysis can also be very helpful in detecting issues in other organ systems and is important for the diagnosis of metabolic diseases such as diabetes.
- Fecal Exams
A fecal exam is a diagnostic test used to identify and treat any gastrointestinal (GI) infections that could be compromising your pet's health. Fecal exams also allow your veterinarian to determine if your pet has intestinal parasites such as roundworms or hookworms.
